More products being made to help our environment

I spent a couple hours today cutting out fabric. I'll be making sets that include a lunch sack, a sandwich bag, a snack bag and a utensil holder. I can't wait to start sewing!! I think they are going to be pretty awesome!

Let's keep plastic utensils out of our landfills

I just finished making 7 utensil holders. 5 large and 2 small. At the last craft boutique we did in October we sold out of the large and sold quite a few of the small. That gets me pretty excited thinking about how much plastic wear will be kept out of the environment with just those that were sold.
I've been using mine for quite some time now and I always think about the difference it is making. I work two nights a week and use at least three or four utensils because I eat two meals (it's a twelve hour shift). So, using 4 a night is 8 a week, times 52 weeks is 416 pieces of plastic that just one person can keep out of our landfills!! I made one with flames for my husband and he is using it too. He works three nights a week, so we are really making a difference. Another added bonus is that you are using real utensils. They are so much nicer to eat with. For the small one for kids you still use plastic but at least it can be reused instead of thrown away.
All the utensil holders are made with cotton fabric and lined with ripstop nylon. They have dividers sewn in to separate the utensils and have a velcro closure and are machine washable. Think of the difference you and your family could make using these!

I'm back and ready to make a go of this :)

It's been months and months since I have blogged. I got stuck. My goal of not using trash bags in my kitchen can got a glitch put in it. The dumpsters that I use at my condo  put up a sign that said all trash must be securely bagged. That makes no sense to me. If its tied up tight in a bag, what are the chances that it will ever break down? I stopped using my bags for household trash for the time being, but now I'm ready to see what I can do to change things.
I've also gone to the recycle center multiple times since then, making more money to put in the grandkids accounts and keeping tons of cans and bottles out of the environment.
And, I've made new bags! I'll post in a couple days with pictures and stories.
Lets all work in our own ways to be green :)
